The Osprys

We arrived in Invermere about 11 PM the night before these osprey images, without stopping for dinner. It was a great day. Parking for the hotel was on the street. The restaurant in front of our parking space appeared open. Mark went to check and reported we could still get food as I headed to check in. It turned out to be “bar food,” with just a few people remaining. The oversize appetizers were welcome and good. Mark was talking with a woman who had been riding horses with a friend that day. When our food came, she said it was time for her to go home. I noticed and said “we’re the only guys in here.” They all giggled, including the bartender.

Before we finished eating a guy came from the back. It seemed he must have been the chef and/or maybe the owner. He was from somewhere in the Middle East. The conversation was interesting. He had no idea Highway 93 that ran near his town runs from Jasper to the Mexican border. On the subject of photography, he wanted to make sure we saw the osprey around Windermere Lake. From his perspective, there were many of them and we imagined a wilderness park of some kind. The next morning we found two osprey and houses all along the lakeshore, except for a small park with picnic tables and playground equipment. Several miles down the road we began wondering whether we had stumbled into a gay bar on “girl’s night” – probably not. The speculation was fun.
