For our second day, we went north to Taos. Driving through Ranchos de Taos, I saw the back of San Francisco de Asis, which is in one of my Ansel Adams books. It is also on the cover of a book I saw at Abiquiu the day before. That book cover had Adam’s image alongside a painting from essentially the same vantage point by Georgia O’Keeffe. The book seemed to be about the time they worked together and influenced each other. After a few of my own images for the back of the church, we went around to the plaza, where I shot other images of the church and a few buildings around the plaza. Interestingly, the caption in “Ansel Adams Photographs of the Southwest” is “St. Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos, New Mexico, c. 1958.” The signs around the church indicate it is “San Francisco de Asis.” I chose to rely on the signs.
