Egret from Wildlife Viewing Area at Bodie Lighthouse
Father's Day Weekend 2012 - On our first morning, our first stop for photography was the Bodie Lighthouse. At the time, the lighthouse itself was being maintained. The untraditioanal view was good for interesting pictures and inspired us to do a little more around the grounds than we might have otherwise done.
The 2012 trip started early on Saturday June 23, returning on Wednesday June 27. We drove to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where a Holiday Inn Express was our base of operation. From there, we traveled south to Ocracoke Island and north to the Virginia State Line. The last several miles of the northern trip were on the beach in a Jeep we rented from a dealership at Kill Devil Hill. There would be no way to make that part of the trip without 4-wheel drive. We made that part of the trip to photograph wild horses in the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge.
