Flathead West State Park at Goose Bay

On the map, Flathead Lake looks large. It is. There is nothing like driving beside it for miles and miles. The water is crystal clear, with the aqua tint of glacier-melt water. The trees are a beautiful green. We passed through several town, laid out for weekend visitors and quaint summer homes – no hotels to speak of. The few we saw were small. The towns were clean and simple, somewhat like small towns along the coast of Maine, but smaller. We didn’t see tacky tourist attractions – just inviting places for people to visit over and over for simple relaxation. A few roads may have led to out-of-sight guest ranches. And, there were nice, clean state parks. Mark Lewis and I spent some time walking the shore at this one. It was a beautiful part of the day’s drive. 47°56'55" N 114°11'2" W
