Sand Castle on Ocracoke Island

Father's Day Weekend 2012 - We stopped at a horse viewing area on Ocracoke Island. There was not much to see there. So, we walked across the highway to a beach, where we found a nifty sand castle and sand sculpture.

The 2012 trip started early on Saturday June 23, returning on Wednesday June 27. We drove to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where a Holiday Inn Express was our base of operation. From there, we traveled south to Ocracoke Island and north to the Virginia State Line. The last several miles of the northern trip were on the beach in a Jeep we rented from a dealership at Kill Devil Hill. There would be no way to make that part of the trip without 4-wheel drive. We made that part of the trip to photograph wild horses in the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge.
