Mount Rushmore from The Trail Below

The ranger-guided walk included an outstanding discussion to help understand why the things these men did has been so incredibly important to our country’s ability to offer the freedoms it has. Regularly he said, this is not a monument to these men as individuals, it is a monument to the principles of government that makes the United States able to change and adapt as the world changes. Everyone is free to have their input in the changes. I kept thinking about all the people who seem to think the government dose things they do not like. They seem to think the government is for their personal benefit. The ranger quoted passages from the Declaration of Independence that should help us all be more tolerant of other’s views. I was very impressed. I shot this image to capture the sky as dark as I could get it. I wanted the monument to be lifted as prominently as possible out of the rest of the image.
